Rabin square has long been a free zone - a space, essentially a container, to which programs are poured into when needed; it could be seen as a void in the urban space, in the sense of its perceptual vacancy. The square doesn’t only serve as a crossing spot, but rather as a getaway as it allows different kinds of programmatic events in varied scales. To an extent, the site holds a double identity which varies rapidly between the daily activities and massive events, sometimes planned, at times arbitrary. The physical aspect of these events display the ever changing square in a variety of colors and visual identities.
As a response to the consumer-culture we aspire to shed the light on the experience instead of creating a generic programmatic plan. Therefore, we offer inspirational atmospheres that urge the user to create, influence and express.
The project supplies the sufficient structural elements in accordance with the needs of each envisioned atmosphere suggesting a different approach to what public space should look like and what it should supply. The weaved atmospheres don’t just provide a platform for programmatic scenarios, we believe that weaving atmospheres can also stimulate new urban interactions in the public space.
